Music has always been a passion for Richie Dio since the age of six, when he began his musical instrument training in piano, drums and percussion. Since then, his music performance has taken many forms over the years, with involvements in various bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and commencing in 1992, DJ’ing. Richie was inspired by the sounds of progressive, tribal and garage house, and a trip to London in the mid-1990s, where he found himself immersed in the sounds of the London underground, further catapulted his interest in house music. His movement into music production was inspired in large part by lengthy conversations with his cousin, Grammy and Emmy-nominated songwriter and former American Idol Judge Kara DioGuardi.
From 1998 to 2002, Richie Dio produced and DJ’ed a 2-hour weekly house and techno show at radio station WSJU in New York City, having the opportunity to bring in locally and internationally known guest DJ’s and artists. Additionally, he brought his passion and talent as a DJ behind the decks at several NYC nightclubs, including Limelight, Tunnel, Speed, Pacha and Cielo, among others. The music comprising most of Richie Dio’s sets incorporate plenty of driving drums and percussion, immersive melodies, chord progressions, and vocal elements, including genres such as Tech House, Afro House, Melodic House, Deep House and Progressive House, and Techno, all speaking to his versatility and love for the many shades of dance music.
